Description
The boundary marker, dated 1911, is made of cast iron and stands about 350 mm high, set into a bank. It features a circular head approximately 200 mm in diameter, inscribed with raised lettering that reads 'Great Western Railway Co' around the edge and 'Boundary 1911' in the center. The support is cruciform in section. This marker indicates the extent of the Great Western Railway property at the site of the now-demolished Hatch Beauchamp railway station, which was part of the dismantled Taunton-Chard line. This line was opened in 1866 by the Bristol and Exeter Railway, which was later taken over by the Great Western Railway, and it closed in 1962. This boundary marker is a very rare survival of its type and is included for its historic interest.
