Description
Buttle's Lodge is a lodge for Hatch Park, built around 1835 and restored in 1984. It is constructed of ashlar stone with slate roofs, featuring a coved cornice, coped verges, and a central stone stack supported by shaped brackets. The building has a T-plan layout, with the main elevation facing west towards the drive leading to Hatch Park. Designed in a Palladian style, the west front has two storeys and a pedimented center that includes a two-light casement above a tetrastyle loggia. This loggia is flanked by empty semi-circular headed niches and is adorned with moulded cornices, string courses, and dados. Access to the lodge is through the left re-entrant angle of the loggia, which also has three two-light casements. The original Hatch Park was destroyed by fire in 1942 and has since been rebuilt.
