Description

Rectory Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 15th century, with alterations made in the mid-16th century, 17th century, 18th century, and 20th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings. The building has a steeply pitched tall slate roof made of Collyweston tiles, with a single gable and large central wall stacks. The structure is designed in a T-plan and has two storeys with a south front that consists of four irregular bays, which are advanced and separately gabled.

The entrance is through off-centre panelled double doors to the right, accompanied by a three-light mullioned window and a small fixed light. On the first floor, there is a small two-light leaded casement, and to the right, a three-light casement. Between these windows is a four-light gabled dormer mullioned window with a moulded cornice. The left gable end features a pointed opening with a chamfered reveal, which now contains a 20th-century door. The rear wall shows the stub of a wall stack, and on the ground floor, there is a six-light mullioned window with a king mullion and cornice.

Inside, at the service end of the former hall, there are two 15th-century ashlar arches with chamfered reveals and hacked-off strip mouldings. The clasped purlin roof over the hall includes some soot-blackened timbers that have been reused. In the 17th century, the hall was lined with oak wainscot featuring four tiers of vertical panels, with a lying panel above them that forms a frieze under a cornice. The building also contains chamfered and stopped girders throughout.
