Description
No. 48 East Street is a good two-storey building from the mid-18th century, constructed of red brick. It is located to the right of Nos. 1-10 Grays Alms Houses. The centre of the front façade projects forward and features stone or stucco bands. The building has a parapet with a dentil cornice and five windows that have architrave surrounds and rusticated voussoirs, although the glazing bars have been altered. The doorcase is adorned with an architrave surround and a pediment supported by consoles, with a window above that also has flanking consoles. Modern shop fronts are present on both the left and right sides. Nos. 1-10 Grays Alms Houses and Nos. 48 to 54, in sequence, form a group.
