Description
No. 7 Market Place is an early 18th-century building that stands two storeys tall with attics, constructed of yellow brick and topped with a pantile roof featuring a wooden cornice with modillions. The façade includes three sloped dormers with sliding sash windows that have glazing bars. A stucco band separates the storeys, and there is a stone plinth at the base.
On the first floor, there is one window with three lights, a central window with a round-arched head, and another window set in a rusticated red brick surround. The ground floor features a three-light window and a single-light window. The central entrance door consists of six moulded panels and is topped by a rectangular fanlight with four panes. This door is framed by a doorcase with fluted pilasters and a small cornice. Inside, there is a notable staircase with a Chippendale fret balustrade. The side elevation has been rebuilt.
Nos. 7 to 12 Market Place form a group, and No. 7 also forms a group with No. 8 and the premises occupied by Ancholme Lodge of Freemasons on Cary Lane.
