Description

No 18 Selwood Road is a house dating from around 1690, which underwent alterations in the mid-19th century and was refurbished around 1980. It is constructed from thin coursed rubble and features an interlocking clay tile roof. The house is double fronted and single depth, with a full-width outshut that is contemporary to the original structure. The entrance is off-center, likely indicating that there was originally a direct entry to the left-hand room.

The building has two storeys and an attic, with the outshut also being two storeys high. There are two windows with four-paned 19th-century plate glass sashes, which are set in the original or only slightly modified squat openings within blocked rendered surrounds. The entrance features a four-panel door, with the upper two panels being glazed, also in a blocked rendered surround; all these features are modern replicas. There are two dormers with two-light casements, and a brick gable stack is located to the left. The outshut includes a three-light casement window under a timber lintel to the right, a glazed dormer to the left, and two two-light casements above.

The interior is reported to contain a bolection moulded fireplace and some early 18th-century joinery, as well as a butt purlin roof, although the interior has not been inspected. This house, which has been slightly altered, is a notable example from the late 17th century and holds good group value within its context.
