Description
Moortown Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the late 16th century, with significant rebuilding in the late 18th century. It is part of the former Burton Pysent estate in the parish of Curry Rivel. The building is constructed from rubble with a tile roof, featuring coped verges and brick stacks. It has a three-unit and cross-passage plan, along with a later added dairy and kitchen wing. The farmhouse is two storeys high with four bays. The first floor has 2-light UPVC casements, while the ground floor features 2 and 3-light edge-moulded stone-mullioned windows. There is a door opening with a plank door. To the east, there is a high-quality single-storeyed late 18th-century dairy, which has stone-mullioned and transomed windows set in moulded architraves, made of brick. A large late 18th-century brick porch leads to a door opening at the rear. Inside, there are notable features, including two framed ceilings on the ground floor and a blocked doorway with a 4-centred arch head.
