Description

White Lodge is a semi-detached house dating from the 17th century, which was refronted and enlarged in the early 19th century and altered in the mid-20th century. The exterior is roughcast over rubble with quoin strips and features a hipped slate roof supported by paired shaped brackets at the overhanging eaves. The building has a plan consisting of two cells and a cross passage, with the refronting occurring on the south gable end of a farmhouse that runs north-south. It has two storeys and three bays, with 16-pane sash windows on the first floor. The ground floor includes moulded lintels supported by console brackets, as well as inserted mid-20th century cruciform windows. There is a central flat-roofed wooden Doric porch with panelled double doors that have inserted lights and a fanlight above. A shaped parapet is present over one bay, and there is a two-storey block that links to The Lawn, which features a 20th-century cruciform window on the first floor and French windows below. Inside, the front rooms have moulded plaster cornices, and there is a stick stair with a mahogany handrail. Scant remains of the earlier dwelling can be found in the service rooms at the rear.
