Description

The Salmon Monument is a chest tomb located about 12 meters south of the south aisle of the Church of St John the Baptist in Chilcompton. The earliest legible inscription on the monument is to Henry Salmon, dated 1790, although the chest itself is likely older. It is made of dressed stone and features an oblong shape on a moulded plinth. The corners are adorned with urn pilasters, and there are decorated panels with inscriptions on the north and south sides. The top is a cambered slab that is moulded around its outer edge.
