Description
The Solomon family monument is a chest tomb located about 2 meters east of the chancel at the Church of St Mary Magdalene. It dates from the early 17th century and is made of Ham stone. The tomb features a flat top with a deep cyma recta moulded cornice. On the north and south sides, there are three semi-circular headed arcades, each with keystones, imposts, and spandrels. The east and west ends have single bays. Inscriptions can be seen on all faces except the south side, which was overgrown with ivy at the time of the survey in May 1985. The north face has the name Solomon clearly legible, while the east end includes the inscription "Mortal you shall a----- meet." This monument is a notable example of an early chest tomb.
