Description
The Winchester Arms Hotel is a stone rubble building, likely dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The east front, which faces Castle Green, is two storeys high and features a cornice band and a castellated parapet. There are three rubble buttresses with setoffs and five windows, which include pointed sash windows with Gothic glazing bars and fanlights. A modern wooden porch with a stone slab roof is also present. At the rear, there are red brick extensions with old tile roofs that extend along Tower Street. This building enhances the Gothic character of Castle Green. The listed buildings on Castle Green, including Ina Cottage and Mill Lane, form a cohesive group.
