Description

The Offices of Kelways Nurseries, located on Somerton Road in Huish Episcopi, are a building that was likely constructed in the early 19th century. The structure is made of locally sourced lias stone that has been cut and squared, topped with a hipped roof covered in plain clay tiles and featuring brick chimney stacks. The building stands two stories tall and has three bays. It includes sash windows set in plain openings beneath dovetailed stone lintels, with 16-pane windows above and 4-pane windows below. The lower bay features a 6-panel door with four glazed panels, set in a recess under a flat voussoired arch. The interior of the building has not been seen. This building is part of a larger complex of nursery buildings and is historically linked to the nursery founded in 1851, originally known as the Royal Nursery, which later adopted the name of its founder.
