Stable Block, About 25 Metres North Of Poundisford Lodge

The stable block, located about 25 meters north of Poundisford Lodge, is a former stable complex that includes a coach house, cider house, and adjoining cartshed. The eastern range likely dates from the late 18th century and underwent alterations around 1840. It is connected to the western range by an archway. The building is constructed from chert random rubble, with the lower courses made of dressed lias and sandstone on the gable end of the western range, and features quoins and slate roofs with coped verges.

The structure is U-shaped and faces roughly south, with the former stable and coach house in the eastern range, which has a shelter shed at the rear. The western range contains stables, a cider house with a loft above, and a cartshed addition that is linked by a three-bay wall facing the driveway to Poundisford Lodge.

The south front has gable-ended outer bays featuring two-light Tudor arch head attic windows beneath hood moulds. The central entrance is a pedimented ogee-headed carriageway, flanked by two ogee-headed archways that are connected by a vermiculated entablature. The facade of the western range, which faces the stable yard, has square-headed openings in the outer bays and a pair of elliptical-headed carriageway openings in the center. The eastern range displays irregular fenestration, including three square-headed openings and a pair of Tudor arch head windows, along with a pair of painted arch head windows, all under hood moulds. There is also a cartshed with a pyramid slate roof abutting the gable end.

Inside, there is shaft drive machinery for cider making. The western range appears to be brick-faced with chert rubble and is believed to be the earlier part of the structure.
