Description
PITMINSTER CP ST22SW POUNDISFORD 6/142 Stable block, about 25 m north of Poundisford Lodge 25.2.55 GV II Former stables with coach house, cider house and cartshed adjoining. Eastern range possibly late C18, altered c1840 and linked by archway to balancing western range. Chert random rubble, lower courses of dressed lias and sandstone in western range gable end, quoins, slate roofs, coped verges. U-plan facing roughly south, former stable and coach house east range with shelter shed at rear, to west stables with cider house and loft over, cartshed addition linked by 3-bay wall fronting driveway to Poundisford Lodge (qv). South front: gable ended outer bays with 2-light Tudor arch head attic windows under hood moulds, pedimented ogee headed carriageway entrance centre flanked by 2 ogee headed archways linked by vermiculated entablature. Facade of western range facing onto stable yard, square headed openings in outer bays,pair of elliptical headed carriageway openings centre. Eastern range irregular fenestration, 3 square headed openings and pair of Tudor arch head windows with pair of painted arch head windows, both under hood moulds; pyramid slate roofed cartshed abutting gable end. Interior: shaft drive and machinery for cider making. The western range appears to be brick faced with chert rubble and is thought to be earlier.
