Description
The United Reformed Church and adjoining manse, originally built in 1821, is a chapel, manse, and school that was enlarged in the mid to late 19th century and altered in the late 20th century. The building is rendered and features a gable front with a valley in between, along with bitumen-covered slate roofs and a corrugated iron lean-to addition on the right. The layout consists of the chapel in the center, the manse on the left, and the school on the right.
It is two storeys high with a façade of one to three bays. The left gable end has 20th-century windows, while the right side has a string course at the base of the gable and a plaque in the apex inscribed 'Built AD 1821'. The chapel has semicircular headed sash windows with glazing bars, and the main entrance is through a flat-roofed wooden porch with chamfered corners and a double floor. The left side features an open pedimented pilaster doorcase with a fanlight and a plain door, while the right side has a cantilevered porch supported by shaped console brackets, leading to another plain door. There is also a tablet inscribed 'E.N. Welin' at ground level. The right return has three bays with 16-pane sash windows. The open pilaster doorcase originally belonged to the chapel door but was relocated to the manse when the porch was added. The interior has not been seen.
