Description
The Firs is an early 18th-century cottage that was altered in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with a painted facade and roughcast gabled ends, topped by a steeply pitched slate roof. The building retains remnants of a moulded cornice, with about nine courses of brickwork visible below the current eaves. There are brick stacks at the gable ends. The plan consists of two cells and a cross passage. The cottage is two storeys high and has three bays, featuring early 19th-century three-light leaded iron casements with quadrant stays. The ground floor has voussoirs above the segmental-headed window openings, and there is a central entrance door with a 20th-century rustic porch. The remains of the cornice suggest that the windows were originally dormers before the roof was raised. The interior has not been seen.
