Description

Newley Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that has been altered in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. It features roughcast walls and a steeply pitched decorative clay tile roof with decorative bargeboard gable ends. There are brick stacks set in from the gable ends and to the left of the entrance. The layout is not entirely clear, but it is possibly a three-cell design without a cross passage. The building has two storeys and an attic, with three bays. All the windows are 20th-century three and four-light casements, and the first-floor window openings have brick surrounds. The entrance, located to the right, is a half-glazed door leading into a flat-roofed single-storey mid-19th-century addition that opens onto an eight-bay verandah. The verandah has decorative clay tile and plastic roofing supported by irregularly placed square wooden columns. The attic is lit by windows in the gable ends.

Inside, the ground floor has only been partially observed, but it features a central four-panel compartment ceiling with steeply chamfered beams, which are cut by an inserted partition. The right beams have scroll stops. There is an abutting range of brick farm buildings to the right, which date from the late 17th to early 18th century but have been extensively rebuilt and are not included in the listing. The impressive roof of Newley Farmhouse may contain interesting and datable features.
