Description
Upcott Hall is a country house, now converted into flats, dating from around 1730 and altered in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond with Ham stone dressings, featuring a moulded plinth and rusticated pilaster strips that distinguish the central three bays. It has a moulded cornice and a renewed brick parapet, topped with a slate roof and brick stacks. The structure has a 'U' plan and consists of two storeys plus an attic, with an irregular arrangement of flat-roofed dormers across two, three, and two bays. The window openings have moulded raised surrounds with keystones, and there are 12-pane sash windows, although the outer bay on the right is blocked, and a 20th-century window has been inserted in the second bay on the ground floor. The central entrance features a Ham stone fluted pilaster doorcase that supports an entablature with triglyphs above the pilasters, leading up three steps to a 20th-century door. The right return of the building has a long five-bay façade. The interior has only been partially observed, but the front room on the left, which is now partitioned, includes Corinthian columns in the overmantel, a dentil moulded cornice, and a panelled dado, along with a dog leg stair.
