Description

This is an unidentified chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 5 metres southwest of the tower of the Church of St John the Baptist. It dates from the late 16th to early 17th century and is made of Ham stone. The tomb features a flat-topped chamfered cornice and a bevelled plinth. The top is inscribed, though the inscription is largely illegible. The sides are unadorned and uninscribed, except for the west end, which bears the inscription, "As you are, so was I, As am I so will you be.... Third of May 1603," attributed to Thomas Hay, although this attribution is not certain.
