Description
This is a two-storey and attic house, now a shop, dated 1798. It is located on the west side of Town Street in Shepton Mallet. The building is constructed of limestone rubble with a painted ashlar slate roof. It has a double-pile plan and originally featured three bays. The ground floor has a modern shopfront. Above this are two sixteen-light sash windows, flanked by a smaller twelve-light opening; each window is set within its reveal and has a moulded hood. A moulded cornice runs along the top of the building, above which is a parapet with coping. The roof is a Mansard style, containing three dormers. Chimneystacks are situated on each gable. This building demonstrates group value as an early example of a shop front in the town.
