Description

This is a house attached to the rear of No 24 High Street in Bruton, dating from the 16th century and modified over time. It features a timber frame with rendered panels set on a local stone rubble base, and is colourwashed. The roof is made of stone slate with a plain gable at the south end and has a brick chimney stack at one end. The building has two storeys and four bays, with the first floor jettied on five curved brackets. The first bay contains a late 20th-century glazed door set in a cambered arched opening with a timber head. The lower bays two, three, and four have late 20th-century single light casements. Above, there is a two-light casement spanning bays one and two, another in bay three, and a single light in bay four. The interior has been much altered, featuring modern stairs, but retains an arched braced roof with curved wind braces.
