Description

Keinton House is a late 18th-century house, originally incorporating a shop. It is constructed of local lias stone, squared and cut, with a plain clay tile roof and brick chimney stacks. The house is two storeys high and three bays wide. The upper floor has twelve-pane sash windows set flush with the wall, each under a plain, voussoired flat arch. The ground floor features forty-eight-pane shop windows to the outer bays, which project forward and have rounded panes at each end, sheltered by a continuous flat roof without a fascia. A pair of three-panelled doors are set between the shop windows, flanked by fluted Tuscan pilasters. A shaped stone plaque bearing the shop’s name sits above the doors. The interior of the house has not been inspected.

Attached to the front are wrought iron railings, approximately two metres from the house, with returns to the house at each end. The railings stand on simple stone kerbs and are supported by plain stone gate piers. The square rails have collared spear tops, with urn finials at the corners. Twentieth-century gates and lion finials are present on the gate piers.
