Description
The Thomas Cole chest tomb, located in the churchyard about 16 metres south of the porch of the Church of St Mary, dates from the mid-18th century. It features a conglomerate top made of Ham stone and blue lias. The tomb has a ledger top with apsidal ends, a cyma recta moulded cornice, and a chamfered plinth. The east and west ends are bowed and include recessed oval panels. The inscription on the south face is illegible, while the north face commemorates Thomas Cole, who died in 1754. At the time of the survey in March 1984, the tomb was in poor condition, with a central section of the frieze missing.
