Description
Kingsload is a building that may have originally served as a granary over a coach house, and it has since been converted into a dwelling. It likely dates back to the 16th century but has undergone extensive alterations in the mid to late 20th century. The structure is made of red sandstone and blue lias random rubble, with brick surrounds to the 20th-century openings and Ham stone dressings. It features a steeply pitched double Roman tiled roof and has a pair of brick stacks on the right gable end.
The building is two storeys high on the east front. It has a central oval bull's eye opening in ashlar slabs at the first-floor center, along with three irregularly placed 20th-century windows that have brick surrounds. There is a tier of pigeon holes, some of which are blocked in the center. On the ground floor, there are two inserted 20th-century windows on the left, a timbered opening on the right with a window, and a central 20th-century plank door. Kingsload is listed for its historic interest and is part of a group with The Manor to the south.
