Description

Hollydeane Quantock Cottage is a farmhouse and detached building that have been joined to form two dwellings. It dates from the late medieval period, was ceiled in the 16th century, and was enlarged to the west, linking it to a detached medieval outbuilding in the late 20th century. The exterior is roughcast over rubble and cob, with a double Roman tiled roof and brick stacks on the left gable end and on the crosswing.

The building has a plan consisting of two cells and a cross passage lying east-west, with the western portion enlarged and connected to the detached building, which is set gable end onto the road. The northeast portion of the façade is two storeys high with a symmetrical arrangement of two bays on each side. All windows are 20th-century, featuring two and three-light casements, with a slight brick wall at the end bay on the left. The angled wall links to the outbuilding on the left, and there are doors in the crosswing and the second bay on the left.

The interior has not been sighted but is said to contain a moulded 12-paned coffered ceiling, a franked partition to the cross passage, and remains of a jointed cruck truss roof. The original detached building to the north is reported to have had a single light trefoiled ogee-headed window, which was later relocated to Hollydeane.
