Description

Bobbetts is a farmhouse that has been converted into a dwelling. It dates from the late medieval period, with a ceiling added in the late 16th century and alterations made in the 17th century and mid-20th century. The building is rendered over cob and rubble, featuring a steeply pitched double Roman tile roof and a brick stack at the right gable end and above the entrance.

The layout is believed to be a late medieval cob house, originally consisting of two cells and a cross passage, which was enlarged in the 17th century with an additional room and cross wing to the left of the present entrance. The house has one and a half storeys and is composed of three bays. It features 20th-century three-light casement windows, with two located in the crosswing to the left, and three dormers rising from the eaves—one to the left and two to the right of the entrance. There is also an outshot at the rear.

Although the interior was not viewed, it is reported to contain a moulded four-panel compartment ceiling, a fireplace with moulded jambs, and a depressed four-centered arch doorway in the room accessed from the entrance. Additionally, there is a round-headed door frame in the rear elevation of the room to the left, and to the right, a timber-framed partition with chamfered beams—one featuring scroll stops and the other with step and runout stops. The central two bays of the house are supported by three pairs of jointed cruck trusses that date back to the medieval period.
