Description
The Thomas Cole chest tomb, located in the churchyard about 2 metres south of the south aisle of the Church of St Mary, dates from the early 18th century. It is made of Ham stone and is set on three courses of brickwork on the north side, with lias panels inset on the north and south fronts. The tomb features a ledger top, apsidal ends, and moulded surrounds to the panels, which are raised and fielded at the bowed ends. There is a moulded plinth as well. The tomb is inscribed on all faces, although the inscription is only legible on the north face, commemorating Thomas Cole, who died in 1728.
