Description

Pylle Post Office is a house dating from the 17th century, with a slightly lower addition to the right and some alterations from the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed and squared rubble, with painted dressed stone quoins on the right side, and features a double Roman tile roof with coped verges, the right verge topped with a ball finial. The building has two storeys and is arranged in a 2:1 bay configuration. It has two-light ogee moulded stone mullioned windows beneath stopped labels; the central mullion on the right side of the ground floor has been removed and a casement window inserted. The first floor of the right bay has paired two-light casements. There is a door opening located between the first and second bays, which is framed by a gabled rubble porch with a tile roof and a plank door on the left return. Later single-storey additions to the right, which incorporate the Post Office, are not of special interest.
