Description
Wheatleigh House is a very good early to mid 19th-century house that was originally set in its own grounds and is now located at the corner of Wheatleigh Road and Galmingon Road. The building is constructed of fenestrated ashlar and has two storeys, with its main fronts facing east and south. It features hipped slate roofs, a dentil cornice, and a blocking course, as well as banded quotas.
The center of the east front has a small bow with Corinthian columns on the first floor, which is supported by a substantial frieze with Ionic columns on the ground floor. The first-floor windows have architrave surrounds on each side, while the ground floor includes canted bays with a recessed central doorway. The glazing has been altered.
On the south front, there is a large seven-sided extension in the form of a bay, supported by an Ionic colonnade that connects to the frieze on the east front. The windows in this extension have shouldered architrave surrounds and sashes with wide glazing bars. There are also later extensions on the south side that have been altered and run forward.
