Description
The West boundary wall and entrance gateway, located 8 metres from Tout Hill House, is an 18th-century boundary wall. It is constructed from local stone that has been cut and squared, featuring ashlar caps and piers. At the northern end, the wall stands about 1 metre high and is topped with simple cast iron railings of the same height, extending approximately 8 metres in length. The gateway consists of two 600mm square ashlar piers with plinths, ovolo moulded edges, and moulded pyramidal caps, which rise to about 2.5 metres tall. These piers curve back to smaller matching piers nearby that are about 2 metres tall. The wall continues southward down the slope, increasing in height from 2 metres to nearly 4 metres, making it an important feature of the street scene and contributing to the setting of Tout Hill House.
