Description
Old St Audreys is an 18th-century house located on South Street in Wincanton. It is constructed from local stone that has been cut and squared, with ashlar dressings. The roof is plain clay tile with simple verges, and there are brick chimney stacks at either end. The building has two storeys and three bays, featuring a plinth, a cill course, and rusticated quoins. The windows are sixteen-pane sash types set in architraved surrounds, with the outer ground floor bays having doubled windows and plain stone mullions. The central entrance consists of a six flush panel door with a glazed toplight, framed by an architraved opening topped with a stone pediment hood supported by simple corbel brackets. The lintel above the door still shows the painted letters "NAAFI," a remnant from the Second World War. To the left of the door is a 19th-century footscraper. The north elevation of the house is rendered.
Inside, the interior has been much altered, but it likely retains simple stairs in their original position and some 18th-century doors. The roof features A-frame trusses. This house was apparently used as a flax weaver's residence.
