Description
The north-east boundary wall and gates, along with the north-west return, to Lindum House date from the 18th century. The boundary wall is constructed from ham stone, which is roughly cut and squared, featuring ashlar dressings. The main wall stretches about 30 metres in length and stands approximately 2.25 metres high, topped with a thin coping. It has a curved sweep at the northern corner, culminating in a finial that reaches about 3 metres in height, and it returns back to the house. A matching sweep is present at the southern end. There are a pair of square-plan gate piers adorned with a band and moulded bell-hip caps. Between these piers are decorative wrought-iron gates that feature scroll and twist arrowpoints on the rails, with Gothic arched decoration on the middle and top rails, the latter being curved. The iron gateposts are topped with iron finials. This structure is primarily included for its group value with Lindum House.
