Description

This is an early 18th-century detached farmhouse, which appears to have been divided at some point and was modified and extended in the 19th century. The front facade is faced with ham stone in a near-ashlar style, while the sides and rear are of coursed rubble. The roof is of Welsh slate, steeply pitched with coped gables which are stepped towards the east end, and features brick chimney stacks. The house has two storeys and an attic, with four bays, bays 1 and 2 being of a later date. It has sash windows set in plain openings with voussoired flat arches. The first floor windows have 6 panes in bays 1 and 4, 20 panes in bay 2, and 9 panes in bay 3. The ground floor windows have 4 panes in bays 1 and 2, and an angled bay with a flat roof and 2+4+2 panes in bay 4. To the left of the doorway in bay 3 is a 20th-century boarded door set in a flat-arched recess, with a stone bollard to the right. A continuous string course runs along bays 3 and 4, stepping down over the doorway. To the left of the doorway is a 20th-century circular window set in a now-blocked doorway. There are indications of an earlier window in the lower part of bay 1, and a blocked opening beneath the upper window of bay 3. Two oval windows are set in the west gable, one at attic level and one at mezzanine level. A rear extension, likely from the 19th century, is present. Attached to the east gable is a long, single-storey building with a double Roman clay tiled roof, and a collar truss roof of the 19th century, containing a central throughway. The interior was not inspected.
