Description
The boundary wall, railings, gate piers, and gates located 25 metres south of West Hill House date from the 19th century. They are constructed from local stone rubble and ashlar, featuring wrought iron gates and railings. The rubble walls are approximately 600 millimetres high, topped with ashlar copings and capped with railings that rise to about 1.8 metres. The railings have waisted spikes and urn finials on the standards. At each end of the wall, there are square rusticated piers that are about 600 millimetres wide and 2.5 metres high, which also serve as gate piers and gateway splays. These piers include a plinth, copings, and 20th-century ball finials. One of the west gate piers has an incised panel that reads "West Hill House." The gates are designed to match the railings and feature middle rails with crossed cars. This structure is important to the setting of West Hill House.
