Description

Batch House is an early 19th-century house situated on the north side of The Batch in Wincanton. The house is constructed of local stone, squared and cut, with ashlar dressings. It has a Welsh slate roof with a plain gable to the east, concealed behind a parapet, and brick end chimney stacks with moulded tops. The building is two storeys high and comprises three bays. Architectural details include a continuous cill course, a band course, a cornice, a parapet, and rusticated quoins. The central entrance features a four-panel part-glazed door flanked by flat Doric pilasters supporting an entablature and pediment. Flanking the entrance are single-storey, three-light segmental bay windows with eight-over-eight pane sashes, adorned with pseudo-cornices and lead flat roofs. Above these are sash windows in architraved surrounds. Lead stackheads and downpipes are located on each side of the building. A single-storey extension against the east gable has been adapted as garages with a loft space above. The interior has not been inspected.
