Description

This house, located on Mill Street in Wincanton, has origins dating back to the 17th century with subsequent modifications. It is constructed from local stone rubble with painted ashlar dressings, and features a plain clay tile roof with simple gables and brick chimney stacks. The building is arranged in an 'L' shape and stands two storeys high with an attic. It has two wide bays, each containing paired 12-pane sash windows set within architraved surrounds featuring plain central mullions. A wide 6-flush-panel door is situated between the bays, enclosed within a stone surround of a debased classical style. A small dormer window sits in the roof above the first bay, while a larger pitched-roof dormer is located above the entrance doorway. Inside the hall, moulded edge board partitions separate it from the East room, accompanied by an 18th-century style dado rail. The staircase is a 19th-century dog-leg design. A 17th-century six-panel door leads to the single-storey rear kitchen. Most other interior doors are of the 18th century, featuring two panels. At the rear of the property, additional sash windows are present, along with a pair of Chippendale-style glazed doors, which may have been relocated from another location.
