Description

The George Inn is probably an 18th-century inn, with a 19th-century facade. It is constructed of local stone rubble, with the front rendered; it has an undulating clay tile roof behind a parapet on the south side, and brick chimney stacks. The inn is two storeys high and three bays wide. Features include a plinth, a band course, and a plain parapet. It has four-panel sash windows in toothed and keystoned surrounds, and central doors, part-glazed, within segmental arched openings. On the east side, the roof extends to cover an open access way to a yard. The interior is not described. The inn opened in 1836-37, as documented in Sweetman's History of Wincanton, circa 1904.
