Description
The former Congregational Church, now a social club, was built in 1859. It features red brick in Flemish bond with ashlar stone dressings and has a plain clay tile roof behind a coped gable. The building is designed in an Italian style and has two storeys at the south end, consisting of two bays. It includes a plinth, string courses, and a coped gable with a slightly raised central portion. The entrance consists of central double panelled doors set in a semi-circular moulded arch under an open pediment supported by shallow projection console brackets. This is flanked by plain architraved windows from the 20th century, which are topped with pediment hoods. Above, there are two non-aligned two-light semi-circular arched windows with circular toplights. The gable features an 8-section wheel window that bisects the string course and has a wrought iron finial. The side elevation, mostly hidden, matches the front and includes a 20th-century extension against the north gable. The church is part of an interesting Non-conformist Church 'campus' in Wincanton, one of three in the town, of which this is the only listed example.
