Description

This milepost, dating from 1860, was made by Allen and Co. It is constructed from cast iron and has a V-shape in plan with an angled top. The north side features raised lettering inscribed with "Honiton 16 3/8", while the south side reads "Taunton 2". The milepost stands approximately 350 mm above the ground and is set into a bank. It is part of a notable group of cast iron mileposts located along the Taunton-Honiton road. The name of the iron founders, Allen and Co, Taunton, is inscribed on the plinth that is buried in the bank.
