Description
No. 1 South Street is a detached house with a shop, dating from the early 19th century. The façade is made of ham stone ashlar, while the sides and rear are constructed from cut and roughly squared stonework. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and has a shallow pitch between stepped coped gables, with yellow brick chimney stacks. The building has two storeys and three bays, featuring a plinth and cornice. The windows are 12-pane sash windows set in plain surrounds. On the lower level, there is a 6-fielded-panel door with an inter-rectangular fanlight in a plain recess. The second bay on the lower level has a mid-20th century shopfront, which includes a large-pane window beneath four toplights, a part-glazed door to the right, and a shallow fascia above. The interior has not been seen.
