Description

A pair of cottages at the end of a row, dating from the early 19th century, although they likely incorporate earlier fabric. The cottages are built of ham stone, with ashlar dressings, and have a double Roman clay tile roof between stepped coped gables. A brick chimney stack is also present. The building has a double roof plan. Above, there are two 3-light hollow-chamfered mullioned windows set in chamfered recesses without labels. Below, two 4-light chamfer-mullioned windows with king mullions are set without labels, and are not aligned with the upper windows. To the right of the first bay of the cottages is a 20th-century door set in a deep recess with chamfered edges; to the right of the second bay is a boarded door set in a plain recess. Inside No. 5, a small, blackened opening is located low down in the north gable, with its original purpose unclear. The interiors of the cottages have not been inspected. The group value associated with this listing is that the building contributes to the character of the area.
