8/36 Penny Tombstone, in churchyard 11 metres South of Chancel, Church of St Peter and St Paul

GV II*

Tombstone. Late C17. Ham stone, a single slab about 600mm high, 100mm 1.1 metres wide and nearly 100mm thick. West face has three shallow segmental arched panels with inscriptions: Left panel reads "HEWE/PENNY/DYED/FEBRVAR/4 1688", centre reads "----/PENNY/ DYED/SEP 20/1681" and right panel reads "MOSES/PENNY/DYED/NOVEM/ BER 1691". A rare survival in this part of the county for such a date.
