Description
Yeaw Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century, with expansions made in the 17th century. It is constructed from red sandstone random rubble and features a thatched roof, with brick stacks at the gable ends and stone on the gable end of the cross wing. The building has a plan consisting of two cells and a cross passage, with winder stairs located to the left of the right gable end fireplace. There is a single cell crosswing on the right and a dairy wing at the rear that is set into the hillside.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three bays on the left side, with one bay being an unlit crosswing. It features 19th-century wooden casements with two and three lights, and a three-light chamfered mullioned casement on the first floor in the re-entrant angle of the crosswing. On the ground floor, there are three-light casements flanking a plank door that is approached by two steps, which is sheltered by a pantiled gabled porch supported by shaped brackets. There is also a 20th-century window replacing a doorway on the right side of the crosswing. The right return is said to contain an ovolo moulded three-light mullioned window.
Although the interior was not viewed, it is reported to contain chamfered beams with step and run-out stops, two chamfered wooden doorframes, and possibly a stud and plank partition on the right wall of the cross passage. Additionally, there is a depressed four-centred arch lintel above the first-floor fireplace and possible remains of a jointed cruck truss.
