Description
Lower Preston Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, which has been extensively altered in the mid-20th century. It is constructed of red sandstone random rubble with ribbon pointing and features a thatched roof, brick stacks at the gable ends, and an asbestos slated lower addition to the cross wing. The building is L-shaped, originally designed with two cells and a cross passage, and has had a cross wing with outbuildings added. The farmhouse has two storeys and irregularly placed windows. On the first floor, there is a three-light casement window on the left, and in the cross wing, there is another three-light casement on the left and a loft opening on the right. On the ground floor, to the left, there is a two-light casement window that replaces the original entrance, which had a gabled porch and a half-glazed door to the left. There is also a single-storey lean-to addition in the re-entrant angle, with two and three-light casements to the left of the gabled porch and a plank door. Additionally, there is a single bay lower roofed addition to the gable end. Inside, the farmhouse has been extensively altered, with the cross passage wall removed, but a chamfered beam with scroll stops remains.
