Description
The Anglo Trading Estate is a brewery built in 1864 for Messrs Morris, Cox and Clarke of London, now serving as warehouses. It features coursed limestone block with ashlar dressings and is designed in the Italianate style. The building is four storeys high and has a facade with a 2:1:3:1:2 bay arrangement, where each bay steps forward. It includes semi-circular and segmental headed openings, with metal casements that have glazing bars and louvres on the third storey.
Each side of the building has a five-storey flat-roofed tower with similar window designs. The central door opening is framed by an embellished stone surround, with secondary openings at the base of each tower. There are pilasters between each set of bays that culminate in a moulded and bracketed cornice. The central three bays are gabled, featuring painted lettering on the gable that reads "Anglo Trading Estate Ltd."
Above the bays on either side, a parapet has circular ornamental openings, some of which are blind. A central panelled chimney made of two colours of engineering brick is topped with a decorated stone capping, and there is a second lower stack of similar design. The roof has a hipped penthouse mostly composed of louvred and glazed panels.
To the rear, there are returns of two- and three-storey sections extending for 100 metres. Flanking the main building are two-storey blocks with three bays on each side, each featuring prominent shaped gables adorned with ball finials and pinnacles.
