Description
WEST COKER CP CHURCH STREET (North Side ST5113 9/243 Stable Block, 10 metres North-West of Rectory - GV II
Stables. Early C19. Ham stone ashlar; Welsh slate roof between coped gables, with louvred ventilator crowned with windvane off centre on ridge. Single-storey with loft, 5-bays. 4-centred keystoned arches; to bays -1 and -2 with shaped casement having small panes; open bay-3 then 2 plain doors to bays -4 and -5; garage doors cut into lower bay-2 windows: loft door in gable to bay-3. Outbuilding to match on West side of stable yard, with enclosing wall including square gate pier, 2.5 metres high, with moulded pyramidal cap. C20 buildings attach stables to house on East side. Important adjunct to the Rectory (qv).
