Description
The Old Schoolroom is a former school building, now used as a meeting room, dated 1850. It is constructed from ham stone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a fish scale clay tiled roof between stepped coped gables adorned with ornamental finials. Designed in a 16th century style, the building has three bays with a plinth. The windows are three-light hollow chamfer mullioned with four centre-arch headed leaded lights and labels above in bays one and three. The entrance door in bay two is boarded and studded, set within a chamfered cambered arched surround that has incised spandrels. Above the door, there is a panel inscribed with the words "Parochial + 1850 + Schools," which is topped by a label with shield stops. A matching doorway is located in the west gable. On the west side, there was a former small playground enclosed by a two-metre high random rubble stone wall, which is reduced to one metre high on the north side and topped with cast iron railings and a matching gate. This feature is an important part of the street scene in the centre of the village.
