Description
This building is a workshop, originally a smithy, located approximately 8 meters northwest of Barr Farmhouse in Old Malton. It is likely from the late 18th century and has undergone some alterations and extensions. The structure is made of coursed rubble stone and features brick buttresses. It has pantile roofs, with brick stacks at the ends of the forge, and a catslide roof over the smithy. The forge includes a two-hearth setup and is attached to the smithy. The front of the forge is one storey high with two windows, while the projecting smithy to the left has one bay. The entrance to the original smithy is now closed off with board doors. The forge has two inserted two-light windows beneath heavy timber lintels. This building is included for its group value with nearby structures.
