Description

Number 39 is a house located on Old Maltongate in Malton, dating from the early 19th century, with later alterations from the 19th century. The building features dressed sandstone on a rendered plinth, with a timber eaves band. It has a pantile roof with coped gables and shaped kneelers, along with brick end stacks. The front steps are adorned with cast-iron standards and a handrail.

The house has a central-entry plan and is two stories high with a three-window front. There are five steps leading up to a six-panel door with an overlight, which is sheltered by a 20th-century flat hood supported by brackets. On either side of the door, there are two single-pane sash windows. The first floor features four-pane sashes flanking a single-pane center sash. All windows have painted stone sills, and the openings are topped with flat arches made of voussoirs. The eaves are decorated with a paired modillion cornice, and the handrail on the front steps is ramped up on turned standards.
