House. Early C19 with earlier origins; later alteration and subdivision (see No.45a qv). Original house of rubble stone refronted in Flemish-bond brick, now painted, with dentil eaves cornice and timber doorcase; pantile roof with coped gables and shaped kneelers, and brick end stacks. Central stairhall plan, with rear wing. 2-storey 6-window front, with cellar. Doorcase of fluted pilasters, frieze with fluted centre panel and cornice hood; door of 6 raised-and-fielded panels, with overlight, in panelled reveals. Original passage entry at right end altered to window. All windows are 12-pane sashes in moulded frames, with painted stone sills, and keyed flat arches of gauged brick. 3 roof lights. INTERIOR: dogleg staircase rises to attic, with shaped treadends, column-on-vase balusters and ramped-up handrail. Ground floor: all windows have raised-and-fielded panelling. Dentil cornice in room to left. Fireplace alcoves in keyed round-arched architraves in room to right. Former passage at right end is tunnel-vaulted. Attic: small cast-iron firegrate in room to right.
