Description

This is an aisled barn dating from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from dressed and coursed rubble stone, topped with a stone slate roof and featuring a timber internal structure. The barn has quoins at the corners.

The broad south gable wall includes a single central opening with a wooden lintel and shuttering, above which is a blocked opening high in the gable and an owl-hole at the apex. The west front features off-centre recessed barn doors, while the right end of the wall has been rebuilt using large squared blocks. The north gable wall has been extended to the east and is now mostly hidden by a 20th-century lean-to shed; it contains a large plank loft door and several blocked openings.

On the east front, there is an off-centre recessed entrance with double plank barn doors. To the right, an extended aisle has two side doorways, with a hay loft door above the right one. To the left, there is an open aisled section that now serves as a cartshed.

Inside, the barn has three complete timber bay frames with aisle posts and arched braces that support a simple king post truss. While the purlins and some rafters are original, most of the rafters were renewed in the 19th and 20th centuries.
